Basic Network Setup - Microsoft Windows XP
In order for your computer to successfully connect to the Internet, you must make sure your network settings are configured properly. Follow these simple steps and you will be surfing the net in no time.
1. First, click on the green "Start" button at the lower left of the screen.

2. When the start menu pops up, click on "Control Panel."

3. When the Control Panel pops up, find the icon for "Network Connections" and double-click it.

4. When the "Network Connections" window pops up, right-click your mouse on "Local Area Connection" then select "Properties" from the popup menu.

5. In the "Local Area Connection Properties" window, click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" so that it is highlighted, then click the [Properties] button.

6. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, make sure the "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" radio buttons are selected.

7. Click [OK] to close this window. Your computer is now set to obtain an IP address automatically from the network.
